Kolhapur is the land of sports and sporting legends, who have left their prints on the annals of sport history. Kolhapur has been home to many traditional sports that have showcased the potential, the skill and the talent of individuals. Wrestling, Football, Cricket, Shooting and Swimming were and are still very popular here and the people of Kolhapur are extremely passionate about these games in equal measure.
Kolhapur is also the home of many sports star who with their prowess and scintillating performances have left an indelible mark not just on the national sports scene but internationally too. The first Olympic medal winner Mr. Khasabha Jadhav put Kolhapur firmly on the sports map. Soon Kolhapur had its own marquee of celebrity sports stars. Arjuna Awardee Late. Ganpatrao Andhalkar, Mrs.Sailaja Salokhe, Mrs.Tejaswini Sawant, Mrs.Rahi Sarnobat, Mr.Veerdhawal Khade, Mast.Aniket Jadhav & Mr. Nikhil Kadam are but a few of the heroes who are a glorious part of Kolhapur District’s sports legacy.
These heroes are inspiring many youngsters to take up individual and team games. Kolhapur is witnessing a Sports Revolution that promises to give rise to many more sports stars who will bring glory to the Nation.

Under the auspices of Shri Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj, the able guidance of Major General Shri Shahajiraje Chhatrapati and the painstaking efforts of Late Meghnath Nageshkar, the Kolhapur Sports Association (KSA) was established on 8th April 1940.
The Association has completed 80 years and is making successful strides towards its centennial year due to the astute management and organizational skills of its Patron-in-chief Shri. Shahu Chattrapati Maharaj, ably supported by Yuvraj Shambhajiraje Chhatrapati and Maharajkumar Malojiraje Chhatrapati.
Today KSA has created its own unique identify in the field of sports. It has fielded many distinguished players who have participated at International, National, State & District levels. KSA has concentrated on development of Football, Cricket, Lawn Tennis, Gymnastics, Table Tennis, Swimming, Kho-Kho, Yoga. It has arranged for advance and performance-based coaching. KSA is affiliated to Western India Football Association, Mumbai
KSA has hosted International Women’s Match between Indian women National Team v/s Netherlands Women’s team under the aegis of All India Football Federation, In addition. KSA has successfully organized the highly reputed All India Football Federation’s I-league Championship for two years in a row. KSA has organized Indian Women’s League football – a national level event for developing and promoting Indian women’s football. Grass-root Leader Camp, FIFA grass-root Day, Baby-league Football competitions for 8 to 12 yrs boys and girls have been organized by KSA.
KSA has organized National Ranking Lawn Tennis Championship with guidance of Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association.
Inter District Cricket Competition was organized by KSA for different age groups. KSA organized District Selection Trail for State Table Tennis Competition.
To develop the skill of players and to impart advanced training to them several International, national and state level discussions have been organized.
